How to wake up at 5 AM

Believe it or not, most people don’t wake up at 5 AM for the fun of it. I mean who would have thought?

But why is waking up at 5 AM so desirable?

Waking up early can help you achieve goals. The idea of waking up early can be counterintuitive, getting up and being productive sounds awesome but it may seem tiring just thinking about it.

As a stay at home mom of four, I want to say a couple of things first off it’s not all rainbows and butterflies, it takes time. I’ll probably also be the first to admit, I don’t wake up early every day. (whoops did I just say that)

However, for the days I do (which is most days) I feel at my prime! I am more productive and feel good!

I wanted to share this post with you because I believe waking up early is not only life-changing but eye-opening.

KEY NUMBER ONE: HAVE A MOTIVE (this is absolutely essential)

Let’s face it, you will probably NEVER wake up early for the heck of it. I’m assuming that’s why you are here. However, if you are thinking waking up early may be good for you, you need a MOTIVE! Why do you want to wake up early? Do you need an hour of peace before your kiddos talk your ears off? Do you want to get some morning chores done? Do you want to work? Do you want to journal? Having a motive or goals will make it easier to wake up.

KEY NUMBER TWO: YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE TO GIVE IT MORE THAN ONE CHANCE

This seems like such an obvious answer, but I know how easy it is to want to give up. So don’t give up. Try again. Even if it’s so hard and you think this isn’t for you, you will get there! I have hit that snooze button several times too! Trust me!

KEY NUMBER THREE: GO TO BED EARLIER

A common misconception of waking up early is you can do everything else in your life the same and still wake up early. Well, sister let me tell you a fun story: THIS IS FALSE (I’m sure Dwight Shrute said this once) To make this successful, you have to go to bed earlier. Let me repeat: YOU HAVE TO GO TO BED EARLIER. 

INSERT RANDOM KEY – GET AN ALARM CLOCK AND PLUG IT IN ACROSS YOUR ROOM SO YOU HAVE TO GET UP, DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE

KEY NUMBER 4: SURROUND YOURSELF WITH MOTIVATION, OTHER PEOPLE WHO DO IT TOO

Getting motivated for something you’re not used to can be really hard. Even if you truly want it, this still comes with its challenges. One thing I do still to this day, is I surround myself with like-minded people. Instagram is my absolute favorite social platform for that. Follow people who inspire you, who give advice on waking up early, who show you what its really like to get up early, and what good waking up early can do.

KEY NUMBER  FIVE: YOU HAVE TO WANT IT..AKA THE ONLY KEY THAT MATTERS

I can give you all the advice in the world about how to wake up early. The do’s and the dont’s, the mistakes I have made, the success I have had. However, if I was able to only give you one piece of advice, it would be YOU HAVE TO WANT IT. Maybe you bought a book or signed up for a program to help you succeed at waking up early. But none of these things will work if you don’t want it. Don’t be like Jon Snow.

It seems as if waking up early nowadays is a very successful way of life, you see all these entrepreneurs doing it, stay at home moms, productive people, but do it for yourself not because everyone else is doing it.

I hope I have inspired you and given you some encouragement to try to wake up early. Just remember to give yourself some grace, you will be successful and will achieve your goals.
